The composer, conductor, pedagogue Soltan Ismail oglu Hajibayov was born in 1919 in Shusha city. After finishing two-class school his uncle, Uzeyir Hajibayov brought him to Baku in 1930 and held him in his home as a member of his family. After finishing secondary school, he graduated from special music school as well, afterwards in 1946 the young composergraduated from prof. B.I. Zeydman’s class at the Azerbaijan State Conservatoire. The “Gizilgul” (“Rose”) musical comedy was staged in 1940 prior to his entering the Conservatoire.
The ballet “Gulshan” (1950), musical comedy “Gizilgul” (1940) two symphonies, concerteen for orchestra, “Oynag topum” (“Playing ball”) and “Isgandar va choban” (“Alexander and shepherd”) children operas are among the creative works of the activity of composer’s who is an author of many songs and romances.
Soltan Hajibayov had been a teacher at the Azerbaijan State Conservatoire since 1947, in 1847 – 1962 he was the art director at the Azerbaijan State Philharmonic and in 1969 – 1974 he was appointed the chairman of the State Conservatoire. The prominent composer S. Hajibayov who died on 19 September, 1974 was buried in the Honorary Cemetery.
